JAMES COLEMAN, AIA LEED AP
James believes design is a collaborative process that is both inspiring
and practical. He approaches architecture with patience and a sense of
humor, understanding an architect’s role as multifaceted; negotiating the
overlapping and sometimes competing interests of design, budget, schedule,
and construction. Using drawings and computer models, he engages in a
search with the owners and builders for a design whose
expressiveness, structure and materials are interdependent with the project
requirements, owner’s vision and context.
James established James Coleman Architecture Studio in 2007. He has
experience with projects of all scales in New York, Connecticut, Maryland, and
Rhode Island, including large commercial and residential projects, corporate
interiors, historic preservation, and private residences. From 1992 until 2004,
he lived and worked in New York City as a project architect and project
manager on large scale commercial projects, working for GKV Architects,
Gensler, and W Architecture, and built furniture and fixtures in his Brooklyn shop, the original J
Coleman Studio. From 2004 to 2009 he worked with Joeb Moore in
Greenwich, Connecticut on the design and construction of high end
residential projects. He grew up in Norwich, Connecticut and now lives and
works in Pleasantville, New York. Current clients include:
